Sunflowers 2026

Keep Scotland Beautifull (KSB) took part in the - Big Give Earth Raise campaign – this was an opportunity for any donation to be doubled for the Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network 😊 - which we at PCHub are, it went live at 12noon on the 22nd April 2026!!!! - all donations up to £4,000 were doubled!!!! Quite simply: one donation, twice the impact – no matter how big or small.

We had until noon on 29 April to donate

Check out their 2025 Impact Report for the Network, which will show you where your money is going (and how important the Network is).

As you know, dear reader, we are one of their  Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network. There are almost 250 community groups across Scotland (and it’s all FREE for groups). Donating through the Big Give Earth Raise campaign will enable KSB to raise much-needed funding to help support their coordination of our network.

With our financial support, they help communities build their capabilities and capacity to combat climate change, tackle litter, restore nature and improve the places they love.

We raised money through our giant sunflowers, we want giant sunflowers growing all over our community to grow and show support for the hub and KSb. Come the time of our festival at the end of august we want a wall of pictures of our community's sunflowers

The seven-day online match funding campaign was made possible through the Environmental Funders Network (EFN). Our sustainability champion is one of this networks certificated environmental leaders

The sunflower is regarded in many cultures as a strong and positive symbol, a blessing

bestowed on earth to raise spirits, hope and enlightenment

 Oor Muckle Sunflowers

Last year, the hub provided sunflowers and helped organise Polmont Community Council's sunflower growing competition. Unfortunately, we made a mistake. The variety of sunflowers we chose was not a large one, suitable for a competition that focused on height. While we are not sizeist here at the hub, this smaller variety was unlikely to win a competition based on height.

We learned from this mistake, and after screening  "The Amazing film Power Station," we decided to expand our sunflower growing initiative as a symbol of solar power in the community. We purchased a one-kilogram bag of giant sunflower seeds, and as soon as we could, we began to grow these in our mini greenhouse and cold frame. We also placed some throughout the windowsills of the hub and in outdoor tubs.--Last years sunflowers l

we got £40 In donations for sunflowers And our Vice Chair found a £20 note, whilst undertaking a litter pick! which he added to the £40 He also used his own initiative to Pay the The donation to KSB, saving our treasurer work, SO; with the match funding that 60 pound became 120 pound which KSB can claim the tax back on and it became £135, Thank you very much to all who made a donation Took a sunflower, spread the word or spread the love, We have continued leaving sunflowers out for our community to take to their homes, They don't need to leave a donation at all, if they cant or would rather not thats fine by us, They sunflowers are there for them to take, to build on our growing community, But if they do leave a donation going forward, all monies raised now will be going towards the funds for our Sun Festival at the end of August that funding pot has already begun

By the time of our sun festival, at the end of August, we hope there'll be lots of inspiring stories of homes and gardens throughout our community that have grown these culturally significant, giant, beautiful living symbols of sun power.

Still lots to plan yet but this will be happening its going to be fun in the sun with our growing community
