February Newsletter

 February just flew by at the hub. 


On Sunday, the 1st of February, the management team was welcomed to a meeting with soup provided by the Quakers. On Wednesday, the 4th of February, Kenny had the Environmental Leadership Lab lunch at the Botanical Gardens, where our sustainability champion met the funders and other groups countrywide looking to network, on environmental and sustainability transition projects. Also on that day, work on the refurbishment of the changing rooms into the new Top Toes Clinic began. This was done over the course of the weekend, and now, a month later, we are awaiting a snagging fix list to be completed 



The next day, we had a meeting with the Scottish Book Trust regarding a digital storytelling workshop. We also met with a potential beekeeper and hosted a visit from a photographer. For falkirk districts tennants magazine  for a magazine publication set for April, (this is ongoing )





 The weekend starting the 7th of February marked the beginning of a new project to create -  oor wee library in the coffee lounge, which is a work in progress and is growing daily. 


On Monday, we had a group call with the international Transition Network regarding a planned webinar in April. On Tuesday, the 10th, and wednesday the 11th we attended SCVO Gathering kenny tuesday claire on Wednesday. 


Thursday the 12th saw the launch of our first tinnitus support group, which went well. We also held an online meeting with Falkirk District Council, which offered to match fund our soup initiative with £500, and our mental health and well-being group on the same day. Offered everyone free Reiki for the first time, this is ongoing  



The growing gardening nature and biodiversity team were in that day as well. they held a meeting with various representatives from different growing groups to prepare for our spring planting. And rough plans for the season again ongoing,


On Sunday the 15th, we conducted our first Tea Talk and Tech Drop-in session while the gardening team began setting out seed planters. Over the course of the month, we submitted four funding application forms, one of which was unsuccessful. We also held several meetings with energy installation companies and numerous discussions with our architect. 


On the 21st, we planted some seeds in our new mini greenhouse. Age Concern hosted their annual dinner at the hub, featuring a choir and other entertainment. We purchased some microbes for Soil improvements and attended webinars and meetings about our transition to renewable energy, including a community learning workshop by SP Energy Networks in Glasgow. 





On Tuesday, the 24th of February, FEL & FWC held a Climate Change writing Competition, which was a pleasant evening with lunch. With the winner being awarded a plaque by FEL On the 25th, three members of our team attended the Food growers Gathering event at Baileyfield, a community networking event that everyone enjoyed, Kenny Claire and Emma attended the BaileyFields Food Growers Gathering, and met some new and old friends, we also had a builder do a site inspection that day, on our soon to be started scope of works, and a structural engineer on site to meet our architect, 





We also received a delivery of soil that day. There were far too many webinars and Zoom calls to mention in February, all of this, along with us working on upcoming events day-to-day management, at times, it seems the work will never end



  And March is looking to be even busier!
