Mayday is a distress call

May the 1st 2026 at the hub May Day distress call Mayday is an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal in voice-procedure radio communications. It is typically used to indicate a life-threatening emergency by aviators, mariners, and local organisations like firefighters, police forces, and transportation organisations. Although Polmont Community hub is no longer in anywhere near the state of emergency it faced three years ago, when the hub escaped an extremely close extinction threat,
Our Mayday distress call now in 2026 is no longer life threatening as it was in 2023, because by mayday 2024 our volunteers heard that distress call, these emergency responders answered as we all should in the event of an emergency - they took action to save the hub, by 2025`s mayday call it was to help these same hub volunteers become smart meters, as they kept the lights on and doors open while not getting into debt in the run up to getting the money to acquire the asset from the council, these smart meters achieved this with a grant from the scottish land fund, 2026`s mayday call is for help and, more importantly support in our future proofing projects and community adaptation to extreme weather events, at our screening of the national emergency briefing, the UK`s governmental advisors said that our country needs to tackle climate change on an emergency footing similar to when we are at war. The smart meters and emergency responders at the hub are building our defences into our future-proofing plans May 1st is also known as International Workers' Day. there are no paid workers at the hub; we are all unpaid volunteers striving to make a positive impact in our community. We lack workers' rights except for those outlined in our governing documents, which guide how we conduct ourselves and our duty of care to one another. Additionally, May 1st is the birthday of the Illuminati, a society of freethinkers. This reflects our goal here: to rethink and reimagine what can be achieved with this community asset. What do you, dear reader, hope to see here in your community on May 1st in five years, ten years, twenty, thirty, forty, or fifty years? We need to plan for those outcomes now. May marked the beginning of the hub's emergency repairs, as the maintenance of the hub has been neglected for too long. It is critical to complete some repairs before we can proceed to stage two of our business plan—the retrofit and sustainable redevelopment to futureProof our asset..
We served as a polling station, which provided us with a very interesting and educational experience for the day. Being able to vote on your government is known as participatory democracy, Polmont community hub was proud to serve the community as a place to participate in the selection of a representative at our scottish parliament, Our bookings Coordinator is from England, English people don't have a parliament, we had fun discussing and learning the differences between the elections in England and Scotland, even the voting papers were an education. Do you know, for example, that in last month's election the voting papers had braille down the side in order to make it inclusive and private for blind people to be able to vote without somebody having to read for them! This was developed at Camelon's Sensory Centre and looks to be rolled out internationally, Scotland's election process Leading the World We at the hub are non-political and leave choosing who the community wants as their MSP decision-making process up to individuals; however we did host a screening of the national emergency briefing in order to help our community make an informed choice on who to vote for nationally, this was not political this was knowledge sharing, we invited all political party leaders to that screening, so that they could then act on what the nations communities need, and how our government can support us in the third sector, who are being left tackling various crises in our communities, as the population increases and people live longer the first and second sector in society are becoming increasingly stretched - The NHS the police the firebrigade the social services, add to that extreme weather events such as storms floods droughts and fires, we need more people in our community to become like us - emergency responders. For example, our sustainability manager has given talks at the national level on how we at the hub are tackling the mental health and well-being crises our community is facing, as that is a huge part of the hub's third stage of our business plan. We need elected officials to support us with these initiatives
The recent election was for our community's representative at the Scottish Parliament. None of the local candidates mentioned in their campaign what they would do for village halls like ours, which is one of 1,422 village halls in Scotland. Nationally, we are part of Circular Communities Scotland, Social Enterprise Scotland, and the Share and Repair Network. The new MSP for this district will help shape what these organisations gain from our government. The more governmental support these organisations get, the greater the benefit to all the users of the hub, again this is not political there is some people that want to close the scottish parliament, that is of course their democratic right entirely their choice to choose their leader, there has been people voting to demolish this hub since 2020 that threat is now gone, thanks to sociocracy and hard work from the emergency responders and smart meters, if their efforts can be replicated over scotland then more SME`s will be saved from democratic demolition
On the run up to being a polling station at next year's elections, when our community votes in the elected councillors in our wards. We aim to host a hustings here at the hub. Our community is wards 8&9 of the district council thats 6 councillors who will have a huge effect on what support all the community groups get from the district council.
